The user has to make basic checks before pushback, place the bar and pin, and initiate and complete the process of controlling all communications on the headset and ramp team. The user is not the pushback driver.

Objective: The objective of this training scenario is to prepare the user to perform several key tasks related to aircraft pushback, including:

  • Identifying ‘ready for pushback’ conditions.
  • Applying proper headset communication phraseology
  • Using ramp hand signals for communication.
  • Initiating the pushback procedure.
  • Monitoring and supervising engine start.
  • Safely releasing the aircraft for self-taxiing.

Instructor’s Controls/Parameters: The scenario can have variations based on different conditions and aircraft types to make the training more comprehensive and challenging. These variables include:

  • Lighting conditions: Day/night and clear/low visibility.
  • Aircraft types: Narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.
  • Scenarios: Easy and hard scenarios to test the user’s ability in various situations.
  • Objective: The user has to identify ‘ready for pushback’ conditions, apply headset communication phraseology and ramp hand signals, initiate the procedure, monitor, and supervise engines’ start and release aircraft for self-taxiing
  • Instructor’s controls/ parameters: four lighting conditions (day/ night, clear/ low viz), Two aircraft types (Narrow, Wide), scenarios (easy/ hard)
  • Recommended involvement: User can perform 2-3 operations, total of 15-20 mins
